Stupid Things (Returning) College Kids Say

I'm taking  Partnering: The Development of Intimate Relationships to fulfill a specific Humanities credit (cause you know they wouldn't accept my Anthropology or Psych 101. That would be too easy.), and it is sort of ridiculous. Our discussions center around dating, marriage, and sex. I never understood relationship advice columns in magazines because it all seemed like common sense to me. "Dear Doctor Sue, My husband and I have not been getting along lately. I feel insignificant and all he wants to do is watch television. What should I do?  Sincerely, Lonely Louise" Uhm really? Tell him how you feel and suggest doing something specific together. Common sense. I always thought the people writing in were phony. Nope. Turns out they're all in this class.

There is this lovely 40+ year old girl (not a woman. definitely not.) who has a Minnie Mouse voice and wears rhinestone studded velour sweatsuits, and I doubt her wrinkles aren't filled. I feel bad for her because she tries, but she is just one of those girls that seems to have not grown past high school. She is the subject of STCKS (Stupid Things College Kids Say):

Professor (talking about reward)-"...say I buy my partner a new Harley"

40+ Woman- "Can I date you?"

*Awkward Silence*

Oh college.

  2. I think I must have had her brother in my Psychology class at Tech. He carried the gigantic, insulated gas station mug, you know the one that looks like a bucket with the handle on the side? Anyway, our poor little professor (a maybe 25-year-old girl) spent most of our class trying to avoid his helium hand. If she did call on him we'd spend the entire class listening to his dreams and his interpretations of what they meant. So awkward.

  3. Thank you oh so much for this story. So, so funny. And probably very annoying. I think it's so awkward in college seeing all of these old people in my freshmen core classes trying so hard and talking nonstop...it's like...blah...say something we didn't already know?

    Whoops.
