Snow!

I have a love/hate relationship with Lubbock right now.

Love:
 Having two snow days in a row at Tech. Yay for the incapability of Texans to deal with ice!

Ride pilfered "sleds" down the biggest hills in Lubbock.

  Throwing the football with N and our friend K. Then going out with the boy's and my new friend Say to see The Book of Eli. It was interesting. I liked it. Then we went to eat at Moose Magoo's (a sports bar). It was nice that K has a huge truck so we could get off campus to get something to eat. All the places to eat on campus were shut down that evening. Ahh the life of a college kid.

Hate:

Missing this boy's first birthday since the roads were too icy to make it home.

And just about the happiest kid on the planet. I love him!

Legal

I am legal. But what does that mean? That I can sign my own papers? That I can purchase a scratch off lottery ticket? I think it just really means that when I meet lots of new people at college and they ask how old I am, I don't have to explain away their "hmmm...you're younger than you should be" looks. Hallelujah. 

When I was speaking to my grandfather Saturday, he informed me that every day this year will be my birthday. I told N what Grandpa said, and he said "well he can be with you every day then". I guess maybe he was tired of me saying that it was my birthday and I can do what I want? ;)

My birthday weekend started on Friday. 

N and I did something. I can't remember. It's that old age kickin' in. 

On Saturday, however, I do remember what we did! We grabbed breakfast at Starbucks. I had Very Berry muffin/cake and he had a cupcake. And pumpkin bread. I love him.

We also spent Saturday shopping at re-sale stores. He drove me all around and waited extremely patiently while perused the different stores, and all the racks. He also ended up buying me a beautiful blue, silk, Betsey Johnson dress that I found! How sweet.

This is us going out last night for my "official" birthday. This is the dress. One day I'll get a lot better shots of the dress. It is so unique and special. And doesn't N look handsome decked out in his duds from Express?

I was also surprised by my new (amazing!) roommate, M. She is super busy here at Tech but spent a long time creating a surprise for me. She filled our room with my favorite colored balloons and draped a tent of streamers as well. She also bought me a tasty cookie cake.

My other new friend, S, surprised me with a newspaper wrapped present of headbands and lipgloss. Is there anything else a girl needs in this world? She also bought me a "redneck metal detector". You just point, look, and find something shiny!

I also got a slew of cards, presents, and well wishes from all of my family and friends that are nowhere near Lubbock.

What an amazing birthday. The first one away from my family. Maybe that's what it means to be 18?

20?!

Today my boyfriend officially became my man-friend. N turned 20. I am dating a non-teenager. Don't you remember being young(er) and thinking that 20 year olds were real-live, honest-to-goodness adults? Little did we know that adults were secretly goofy and fun.

Resolutions

Welcome to the new year and new decade. It is weird to think that I am a child of the 00's. What is our generation even called? Generation Flannel and No-Pants? I always wanted to be a part of The Greatest Generation. The style, and patriotism, and determination. Who knows what this next decade will bring though?

I decided for 2010, I will have 10 resolutions. Apparently, they are more like goals though (according to N).

10 Resolutions (i.e. Goals) For 2010:
1. Eat a fruit or vegetable at every meal
My mom suggested this one. She said "it's all about the little changes". 


2. Buy only at thrift/resale stores (except for 2 items at regualar stores a month) this semester at Tech.
Does that make sense? I want to keep my retail therapy in check. Plus, I'll become more creative. I think.


3. Think one nice thing about every person I see/think about.
I love to people watch, but I feel like I make snap judgments, which are sometimes unkind. So, for each person I think about (even the old cowboy with the handle bar mustache that holds the door for me at Chuy's or the girl from high school that never liked me) I am determined to think at least one nice thing about him/her. I would love to learn how to curb my negative thoughts altogether. 


4. Sew a dress.
I've only ever sewed a pillow. In my sophmore Personal & Family Development class (Home Ec). It was pre-cut and everything. But my two peas-in-a-pod pillow was way cool and now sits in my almost 20 year old boyfriends dorm room (Yes. He is that nice to me!) All of that to say, I want need to learn how to sew!


5. Do a layup with the proficiency and ability of a middle schooler.
I just don't want to embarrass myself in front of N's friends with my inadequate ballin' skills. All I can do is shoot from the outside. If you ask me to dribble and move and shoot at the same time? Fail. 


6. DIY something. 
Something cool. Ideas anyone?


7. Shoot a gun at least twice.
I'm not a big gun person, but I want to try. I want to try twice because I am fairly sure that I will be terrified. I want to push myself to try new things. Plus N got this really pretty looking old rifle that was his grandfathers, so I want to pretend I'm cool enough to shoot it. Hehe.


8. Go to two new Texas town's on day trips.
Texas is a big state in case you didn't realize ;) It has so many cool places I have never been. I heard about a certain thrift store in Houston that boasts of the largest selection of vintage cowboy boots in the state. All under $50! Yes please!


9. Run a mile under 6 minutes.
Cliche resolution? Maybe. Important to me? Yes.


10. I'm still deciding. What are your goals this year?

I hope that all of you can be this cool and adorable in 2010!

2009

This year has been one with a lot of changes and important events. So much has changed (including me)!

For your enjoyment:

January

This month includes my birthday. I turned 17! My parents took me and N to see the traveling King Tut exhibit. It was amazing.

Plus we had to leave directly from Dallas to Longview because my sister-in-law thought my nephew was about to be born!














February

I was still braving it through my second semester of my senior year. I graduated early, because I was extra ready to get going.

This is me and one of my best friends, C, decked out for 80's day.













March

My father and I made a weekend trip to Seattle. He had a chiropractic conference, and took me with him. I spent the day in downtown Seattle by myself. I flexed my adult skills that day and I loved it.

My dad also made a miracle happen by getting us a reservation to eat in the Needle. He called all day periodically to see if anyone canceled. It was one of the best trips ever!

April

I spent a lot of time with my friends, enjoying our little town before we all went our separate ways.

If you know me, you know one of my favorite things is prom. Yes, prom. I went to three (would have been four if I hadn't graduated in 3 years) with N. Our town is small enough that the Junior/Seniors can invite underclassmen as well.

Anyways, this was my prom. I got to pick everything, including N's tux. It was just perfect!

May

Apparently this is my only shot with a graduation gown on. Not so flattering, but the Texas heat can do that to you.

I graduated and moved on to real life. Now I can choose to get away from the mean girls!

June

This summer was my absolute favorite. N and I made a trip to Austin to Barton Springs.

July

The four of us (Dad, Mom, Caitlin, and I) were able to make a trip down to the Texas coast. My sister and I still have oodles and globs of fun together.

August

August brought a sunburned and longhaired, life-guarding N, and a cold sore ridden Hannah. It also brought along our 3rd anniversary. :)

September

In September I went to Austin College. It wasn't everything I needed it to be, but these girls were.

I met two of my greatest friends. What a blessing.

Every Tuesday we took Salsa lessons. They were free, and we were amazing. Our instructor called us the Super Team!

October

College brings all sorts of memories. Including horrible ones. After waking up at 2 in the morning, trying to go use the restroom, I get my friend to help me open the door. It wouldn't budge. Long story short, this poor policeman had to run my door down to get me out. Crushing my Mac, and starting all sorts of trips to get it fixed.

Wow.

November

Another great college pleasure was thrift storing. My friend and I spent quite a few afternoons trying on all of the horrible mistakes that brides in the 80's chose.

In November, I traveled out to Lubbock. I went to my first college football game (major anyways), toured the campus, and sat in on classes. I applied for Texas Tech the next week.

I never thought I would transfer, but I am so excited to see what this next semester holds!

December

Finally, this month has been busy with finals, and birthdays, and holidays. Good thing I always have my family!

Christmas Bliss

What a lovely Christmas I had!

We had snow Christmas Eve! (can you see it?)

N's good baptist parents didn't have a corkscrew (hehe ;D ) so he had to open it in a little different manner. 

N got his grandfather's old rifle (some 30 somethin'). I've never even held one before, but don't worry. It wasn't loaded. It was heavy though!

 

N's lovely family had their Christmas on Christmas Eve day. His two older sisters made boeuf bourgenon (sp?). It was delicious.

The best Christmas present ever! While I was at Austin College, I retail therapied myself into a frenzy, buying dress up clothes at the Dollar Store, and Goodwill. My parents then bought all kinds of books that matched the clothes, and my sister painted the old suitcase. It was the best dress up case ever!

But he did get me that beautiful dress (Abercrombie) and the blazer I've been wanting for forever! (Gap). It was lovely!

To top off my wonderful Christmas was my Dad's fun birthday. My sister and I got him a book on Hipgnosis' album artwork. We spent the day in Waco. We went to the very unhealthy, Health Camp for lunch. We saw Sherlock Holmes. Dad said it was like Bond in the 1800s, while Mom said it like Bond, except interesting ;) He also bought each of us a present for his birthday. He is pretty awesome! Happy 46th Birthday!
