mEye favorite!

Yesterday I mentioned that my Mom (and Dad!) did a wonderful job of instilling good sense of self worth and good body image in me. So I was very excited that the lovely ladies of Academichic suggested that other bloggers participate in a week of dressing their best attributes. In this post they fully explain Dress Your Best Week. I picked 5 physical attributes that I like about myself, and this week I will be posting the ways I am accentuating these favorites.

Today I dressed my best for my eyes!

 My eyes are blue, sometimes grey, so I paired both of those colors to match.
I thought a little photoshoot in my (mostly) packed dorm room was appropriate since I leave TOMORROW!

This color blue is my favorite. Shirt: Target, Jeans: Forever 21, Shoes: Thrifted, Belt: Thrifted.

My eyes are unique and beautiful. They are the topic of the most compliments I receive from anybody. They help me read, drive, paint my nails, see cracks in the sidewalks, and view God's beautiful creation.

Things My Mom Taught Me:

1) There are more important things than shoes.

2) There are more important people than mean ones.

3) How to properly clean a bathroom (even if I don't always utilize such information)

 But most importantly she taught me:

-To love all my family, including myself. Thanks for the good body image Mom!

-To have fun, make silly faces, and to laugh at myself every once in a while. Thanks for not taking me or life too seriously Mom!

-What it means to love your husband and family. Thanks for the good example of what a marriage/relationship should be Mom!

- To enjoy my life. Thanks for being my best friend Mom!

TechStyle Fasion Show

I changed my layout. I promise I'll change it again when I feel more creative and I'm not trying to get through finals week.

Finals week is so strange. It is anxiety+boredom=exhaustion. I rolled out of bed this morning at 6:45 to make it to my 7:30 a.m. U.S. History final. I didn't brush my hair or anything. I schlepped it over there rocking my running shoes, jeans, and t-shirt, ala soccer mom fantastic.

Instead I should have taken some notes from the TechStyle Senior fashion show that I attended a few weeks ago:

Stylish (or crazy) purple hat club (why is it called that if they wear red hats?).

High-waisted, funky patterns, bright colors, and Mad-Men influences were abundant.

Creative use of material, and even some mens fashion.

My friend Megan walked for a few of the designers. That's her in the heart cut-out dress (sorry about the picture quality in general...the lighting was horrible and I was not front row), and the two of us after. She did a fantastic job. It was fun to be able to support some style at Tech and in Lubbock!

Now does anyone volunteer to do my last two finals? :)

Latin Lessons

So I have a secret, N and I have been taking Latin dance classes every Wednesday for about 6 weeks (Okay, it's not that big of a secret). Tonight was our last lesson and our instructors took us out to Melt, a lounge that has salsa nights on Wednesdays.

It was fun and scary. Our instructor's friend took me out to dance the Bachata, which I had yet to learn. So here I am moving along with a tipsy, super light, not-my-style lead, and he takes me to spin and pulls my elbow into his face. Into his nose. And he was a wimp. And maybe he covered his face and left the dance floor screaming-ish, attracting everyone's attention in the small venue. Oh lord...it continues to be embarrassing. It was his fault though. I have been led by around 10 boys now and never even stepped on anyone's foot.

N has been pretty great the whole time about learning and doing all of this dancing for me.

After he dropped me off he sent me this message:
"I'm glad I don't have a lame girlfriend that doesn't introduce me to new things"

He's the best. And not nearly as clumsy as me :)

Lubbock Daze

I have a confession, I've been slightly down in the dumps lately. Lubbock produced a couple weeks straight of cold/rainy/windy weather. That combined with the lack of time alone living in the dorms -I'm a bit of a loner at times- has made me want summer to come faster and faster.

It is a good thing then that God blessed me with finding such a great church. N and I have been attending Redeemer in Lubbock. The church has such a passion for God and a love for each other, the Lubbock community, and the world. I am excited for next year here at Lubbock, and I'm so ready to be more involved in God's work.

While I was being reminded of His love for me, I was also reminded of how much fun I've been having at Tech lately. I have been extremely busy.

My Mom and N's mom Patty drove up last weekend to visit. I wanted her to see me enjoying Texas Tech and show both of them around.

N has also been busy with his construction class for Architecture:

That is a space suit. They were making spaces to "dwell" in for Architecture. He's now building a wall out of hangers. Fun no?

I complained about the gross weather but I should also praise the warm days. They are spent here <-- Laying out at Tech's leisure pool, floating around the lazy river, and dropping off the slides. Thank you Tech for some free (sorta) entertainment!

The rest of our weekends have been spent at Lubbock parks. They are so beautiful with the ponds, cyprus trees, and art work.

Male Collegiate Camouflage

I promised you a second excerpt of Hannah's Collegiate Guidebook Spring 2010 Edition and the time has come.

The Male Collegiate Camo is 1/3 part 80's yuppie, 1/3 Jersey Shore tacky, and 1/3 preppy fisherman. Intimidated by this combo? Don't be. It is extremely easy to replicate.

All you need is:

1) One pastel colored button up with chest pockets. (Academy Sports & Outdoors)

2) A pair of short, pleated, khaki shorts.

3) The ever present/ uni-sex Wayfarers. Preferably worn with a sunglasses chain so you can not lose them.

4) Boat shoes. Bonus points for gaudy prints like this pair with diamonds and $ signs.

And for evening escapades, just add one of these to your jeans:

You can't go wrong with a black tee, sequins, weird graphics, and tacky hearts.

Now that you know how to attain the Perfect Male Collegiate Camo, go forth and puke blend in!

Prom Flashback

It was prom last night in my hometown. I thought I'd take a trip down memory lane.

My freshman year, N asked me to the Junior/Senior prom. This was both of N and I's first time going to prom.
I searched for forever to find a dress. I found this one in JC Penney's for $26. I was 14 so I think this is definitely appropriate. N and I call this our "Prom-y Prom" year. You know, matching tie and vest, hair half up-half down etc.

This was N's senior year, so he asked me to go once again.
I found this dress at Group USA for $110. I really wanted the mermaid shape, but there were not a lot of options in that style (for my budget at least). I really loved N's all black tux and my corsage that year, but this year is probably my least favorite dress wise. Strapless just isn't my favorite.

This year was my favorite! It was my Junior/Senior year so I invited N this time ;) I found this dress months in advance. It's BCBG Maxazria. It was $250. Expensive for me. The pictures from this year did not do N and I justice. I think we both looked really classic and beautiful.

The back was what really sold it for me. Prom was the only part of high school that I liked. Ha!
